Obituary for SADIE MIRIAM HAKKINEN
Sadie Miriam Hakkinen, 94, of Croix St., Negaunee, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, February 18, 2020 at the Eastwood Nursing Center.
Sadie was born December 25, 1925 in Herman, MI, to J. Matt and Lily (Overmark) Hakkinen and graduated from Graveraet High School, Class of 1945. Following school, she completed the banking program at Northern Michigan University and began her career as a trust officer at various local banks, retiring from National City Bank.
In her spare time, she loved taking rides to the old family farm in Herman with her sister, hand crafting, making strawberry jam, traveling, and cooking. Most importantly she enjoyed caring for her family and many friends.
Surviving are her nephew, Lee (Helen) Grondin of Maricopa, AZ; great nephew, Lee Grondin, Jr.; great nieces, Michelle and Heather Grondin; and several great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; sister and best friend, Sophie Grondin; and longtime friend, Tony Klein.
Honoring Sadie’s wishes, no public services will be held.
