Francis William Rose, 93, longtime Negaunee resident, passed away Friday morning, January 24, 2020 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility.
Fran was born October 16, 1926 in Marquette to Joseph and Rose (Yshinski) Rose, Jr. and graduated from Bishop Baraga High School, Class of 1944. After school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving until his honorable discharge in 1947. Following his service to his country, he attended Michigan Technological University for three years before beginning working on the ships of the Great Lakes. Fran went on to work most of his working career with UPPCO, retiring as a supervisor in 1988 after 34 years of service with the company.
Mr. Rose was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Fran was also a member of American Legion Post’s in Marquette, Crystal Falls and Gulf Shores, AL.
Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; companion, Patricia Robichaud of Crystal Falls; and many friends, including Mike Starrine of Negaunee and Bill Maki of Negaunee Township. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Laura in 2002; a son, Greg in 2004; and his daughter, Marta Ann Rose in 2011.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 21st at St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Wednesday.
