Obituary for JUDITH ANN "Judy" NEASE

Judith Ann ‘Judy’ Nease, 85, of Ishpeming, and formerly of Marquette and Negaunee, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, December 15, 2019 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Judy was born July 13, 1934 in the village of Ahmeek, Michigan, to Paul and Laura (Strand) Jarvela, and lived there until she was 6 years old. Her family then moved to Ishpeming after her father accepted a job with Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company. Judy graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1952 and was a life member of the Ishpeming High School Alumni Association. Following graduation, Judy worked as a telephone operator at Michigan Bell Telephone and also worked at the 1st National Bank of Negaunee as a bookkeeper.

Judy married the late Howard G. ‘Jerry’ Nease on April 24th, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ishpeming, and together they raised their 6 children.

Judy was very strong in her faith. She was baptized in Ahmeek and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ishpeming. Judy and Jerry were devout members of Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee. She served as chairperson of the greeters and the Econo Foods Share Program. She also served as a church council member and on the fellowship hall committee. Judy was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and held the office of Ada while she was a member.

Judy was devoted to her family and tended to them all with loving care. She loved to cook, bake and keep her house immaculate. In her spare time, she enjoyed fill-in word puzzles, crossword puzzles, jig saw puzzles, knitting, traveling, and was an avid Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings and Green Bay Packers fan. Most importantly, she loved to host family gatherings.

Surviving are her five children: Lori (Tom Donahue) Nease of Ishpeming, Glenn (Jodi) Nease of Gwinn, Bob (Theresa) Nease of Marquette, Geri (Mike) Niemi of Ishpeming, and Paula (Brad) Hupp of Gwinn; a son-in-law, Doug Quayle of Marquette; 10 grandchildren: Jennifer Lahti, Lindsey (Joe) Prusi, Jeffrey (Amy) Niemi, Bobbi (Casey) Banks, Josh Nease, Krista St. Germain, Jake (Brandi) Nease, Doug (Allie) Quayle, Gabriel Wing and Morgan Hupp; 10 great-grandchildren: Blair and Grayson Lahti, Logan, Brody, and Cole Prusi, Ella, Evan and Jameson Niemi, Ruby St. Germain, and Mila Quayle; six sisters: Audrey (Philip) Nardi, Donna Lundin, Betty Carilli, Paulette (Colin) Jacobetti, Sandra (Bruce) Lindberg and Janice (Tom) LaFreniere; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Howard G. ‘Jerry’ Nease in 2013; a daughter, Vicki Quayle in 2013; and brothers-in-law, Fran Lundin and Paul Carilli.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 20th at Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee, with Michael Holman officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. A luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Judy’s memory to the Bethany Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the American Cancer Society.
