Betty L. Carlson, 87, life-long Negaunee resident, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2019 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.
Betty was born January 20, 1932 in Negaunee, and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1950. After school, she worked in Negaunee as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell Telephone Co., as a bookkeeper for Neely Lumber Co., followed by Palm Bottle Gas Co. Betty then finished her working years as a laborer for CCI at their Empire and Tilden mines of the U.P. Iron Range until her retirement, becoming the first woman to draw a 20-year pension as a union laborer in the U.P. mines operated by CCI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Beda (Johnson) Carlson; and a brother, Glenn Carlson. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Conradson and Jeanette Pflugh; one niece; five nephews; two great-nieces; and four great-nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 20th at the Negaunee Cemetery.
