Obituary for ELMER LOUIS SARASIN

Elmer Louis Sarasin, 89, of Perala Ct., Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully Sunday
morning, October 27, 2019 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans with his loving family at his
side.

Elmer was born October 4, 1930 in Gwinn to Louis Elmer and Dollie Caroline (Brunstrom)
Sarasin and graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1948. He served in the United States
Air Force from 1948 to 1952, where he also excelled on their fastpitch softball team. Following his service to his country, Elmer was employed with North Central Airlines, Republic Airlines and Northwest Airlines as Marquette Station Manager, retiring in 1992 with 40 years of service. Elmer was united in marriage to Lois Holmgren on July 17, 1954 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Ishpeming.

Elmer volunteered many years of service with the Negaunee Little League, Babe Ruth and Legion Baseball, and was a driving force for the design and construction of Pete Waara Park and the Negaunee Township Park. He enjoyed bowling and golfing, participating in many leagues. He and his late wife enjoyed traveling, including summer trips with their children to Muskegon, and Milwaukee every summer for the Brewers-Tigers series. He was an avid Tiger fan, and persevered as the only Lions fan in the family. Later, they vacationed annually to Hawaii.

They continued their love of family, including hosting sleepovers for their grandchildren, entertaining them and following all of their sport and extracurricular activities. Elmer retired from his social events in his later years as he lovingly committed to caring for his wife and her progressing health struggles.

Surviving are his three sons: Steve (Sandy) Sarasin of Marquette, Scott (Andrea) Sarasin of Milford and Stuart (Kathy) Sarasin of Marquette Township; his sister, Phyllis Locke of Crystal Falls; 10 grandchildren: Jason Sarasin, Chris Sarasin, Jenny Rundman, Alicia Savage, Tommy Sarasin, Julia Sarasin, Elena Sarasin, Michele Black, Kyle Sarasin and Sydney Sarasin; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 64 years, Lois Sarasin, on April 19,
2018; his brother, Raymond Sarasin; and sisters: Bernice, Violet, Marjorie, Shirley, Irene and
Eveline.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, Nov. 4th at Koskey Funeral Home with
Rev. Dale Niskanen officiating. Interment will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. The family will greet
relatives and friends from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, and also at a luncheon immediately following services at the Negaunee Township Community Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Elmer’s memory to the
