Obituary for ARVID A. RASANEN

Arvid Alexander Rasanen, 91, of Richmond Township, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, September 28, 2019 at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living Facility with his loving family by his side and under the care of the Brookridge staff and UP Home Health & Hospice.

Arvid was born January 20, 1928 in Richmond Township to Matt and Anna (Holmi) Rasanen and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1946. He married the love of his life, Elsie Marttila, on March 20, 1948 and together they raised two children. Arvid was a well-known and respected master mason for Caspian Construction, having worked on numerous major UP Institutions in the Marquette Area. He was proud to finish his career working with his son, Gary.

Mr. Rasanen was a member of Community Lutheran Church, Suomi Location and was also a member of the Bricklayers Union. He’ll be remembered as most loving and kind, and made family vacations even more fun. He could ‘yodel,’ play cards and untangle fishing lines. He always had a greeting and smile for everyone, and brought much joy to his family.

Surviving are his loving wife of 71 years, Elsie Rasanen; two children: Gary (Gail) Rasanen of Richmond Township and Sherry Quayle of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren: Patrick (Amber) Quayle, Kara Quincy and Jenny Gibson; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Matt Rasanen and John Kero.

Honoring Arvid’s wishes, private family services will be held. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
