Obituary for WAYNE SETH KUNNARI

Wayne Seth Kunnari, 84, of Negaunee, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 3, 2019 at Eastwood Nursing Center in the care of his loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Wayne was born September 7, 1934 in Negaunee to Waino and Maria (Phillips) Kunnari, graduated from Negaunee High School and was a lifelong area resident. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy. He met Catherine Gaviglio on her 16th birthday and were married for nearly 64 years. Wayne was a well-liked and respected employee of UPPCO for 37 years, retiring as Meter Foreman in 1993.

Mr. Kunnari was member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee and was past president and treasurer of the Negaunee All-Sports Booster Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed carpentry and woodworking, and his Wednesday trips to the casino and lunch with his wife. Above all, Wayne adored his grandson, Jacob, who was his best friend and pride and joy.

Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, Catherine; three sons: David Kunnari of Glendale, CA, Wayne (Renee) Kunnari of Negaunee and Michael Kunnari of Chicago; his grandson, Jacob Kunnari of Negaunee; and a niece, Debbie Kunnari. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: William, and infant brothers, James and Robert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, September 6th at St. Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am at the church on Friday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the St. Paul School Gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Wayne’s memory to UPAWS.
