Obituary for HENRY GUSTAF ILLIKAINEN

Henry Gustaf Illikainen, 76, of Buffalo Road, Negaunee, passed away late Friday evening, August 16, 2019 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in the care of his loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Henry was born September 20, 1942 in Mass City on his Aunt’s farm to Paul A. and Martha A. (Antilla) Illikainen and graduated from Ewen-Trout Creek High School, Class of 1966 before moving to the Negaunee area. He was employed as a truck driver for numerous companies, including 18 years with Lindberg’s. Henry also attended the Jacobetti Skill Center at Northern Michigan University.

Mr. Illikainen was a member of the Ishpeming Laestadian Lutheran Church. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Ann (Leinonen) Illikainen; children: John (Diane), James, Jacob (Lisa), Joseph, Jason (Linda), Karen, Kristine, Robert, Katie (Justin) Hammond, Kathleen, Ronald (Jamie) and Kelly; grandchildren: Eliisa, James, Eric, Johnny, David, Courtney, Lindsey, Ben, Amanda, Paelynn, Jordan, William, Henry, Fredrik, and Lilly; great-grandchildren: Willow, Kenzie, Kendra, Keegan, Oliver and Easton; his sisters: Julia Linna, Judy Illikainen, Annu Illikainen and Arlene Tousignant; brother-in-law, Alrick Leinonen; sister-in-law, Evelyn (Keith) DeLongchamp; numerous nieces, nephews and many precious brothers and sisters in faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; nephews: Peter and Patrick; sister-in-law, Lillian; and brothers-in-law: David and Marvin.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 21st at the Ishpeming Laestadian Lutheran Church with Dan Rintamaki officiating. Henry’s sons will serve as pallbearers. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon at the church immediately following services.

The Illikainen family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Grossman, UP Home Health and Hospice and the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility for the compassionate care provided for Henry.
