Obituary for STEVEN ARTHUR HEMMILA
Steven Arthur Hemmila, 59, of Cedar Lane, Negaunee Township, passed away at home early Sunday morning, March 31, 2019.
Steve was born January 9, 1960 in Ishpeming to Arthur Wesley and Shirley Ann (Lund) Hemmila and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1978. He was employed in the maintenance department and also in patient care at Marquette General Hospital/UP Health System Marquette until his retiriment.
Steve was a selfless, great guy and would give you the shirt off his back. He had a dry sense of humor and cracked jokes with the best of them. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed cheering for the Negaunee Miners, Detroit Tigers and Red Wings, Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans, Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins. “Uncle Steve” loved his family and always remembered birthdays, including his nephews and great-nephews.
Surviving are his mother, Shirley; brother, Mark Hemmila of Negaunee Township; sister, Susan (John) Savolainen of Middleburg, FL; three nephews: Pete (Alicia Jenner) Savolainen and their sons, Olin and Sami, and Tom and Greg Savolainen; and his beloved dog, Buster. He was preceded in death by his father.
Private family services will be held.
