Obituary for MARGARET MARION "Mickey" WINTER

Margaret Marion ‘Mickey’ Winter, 80, longtime Negaunee resident, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, March 7, 2019 at The Lighthouse at Ishpeming Health and Rehabiliation Center.

Mickey was born February 12, 1939 in Houghton to John and Margaret (Posey) Tossava, graduated from Ishpeming High School and was a lifelong area resident. She worked as a beautician out of her home and was also a nurse’s aide at both the Norlite Nursing Home and Marquette General Hospital.

Mickey was a devout Christian who accepted God in her life. Mrs. Winter was a member of both the Negaunee VFW and Negaunee Eagles Auxiliaries. A ‘force to be reckoned with,’ Mickey was a very active and social person, who loved spending time with family and friends. She loved music, dancing, crocheting and knitting. Most of all she loved being with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her two daughters, Sandra Laitinen of Texas and Candy (Robert) Barto of Gwinn; eight grandchildren: Dana (Shannon) Laitinen, Jr., Carissa (Justin) Kniss, Eric Laitinen, Robert (Ashley) Barto, Jr., Chet (Ashley) Barto, Rylee Barto and Destiny and Desiree Barto; 12 great-grandchildren: Victoria Petty, Magnus and Hayley Laitinen, Gavin and Caleb Kniss, Olivia, Ryder, Ryleigh, Chet, Jr., and Brinley Barto, Randy Tossava, RaeAnn Larson and soon to be Isabelle; one brother, Byron (Peggy) Tossava; three sisters: Bernadine Johnson, Sandra (Steve) Smith and Cheryl (Joe) Robare; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John ‘Jack’ Winter; a son, Randy Tossava; two granddaughters, Kelli Tossava and Nicole Barto; sisters, Dolly Lindstrom and Jacquelyn Krachey; a brother, John Tossava, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Dana Laitinen.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 21st at Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:30 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm at the funeral home on Thursday, and also at a luncheon at the Negaunee Eagles immediately following services.
