Eleanor Jean Erickson, 91, of Pine St., Gwinn, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, February 20, 2019 at the Eastwood Nursing Center.

Jean was born December 30, 1927 in Forsyth Township to Louis and Clarissa (Forcier) Theall, graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1947, and was a lifelong Gwinn resident. She married her high school sweetheart and lover of her life, Charles M. Erickson, on August 5, 1950 and together they raised two children, Vicki and Chuck.

Jean worked at the Gossard in Gwinn on and off for several years while raising her children. She then worked at Gwinn Community Schools as an English as a Second Language teacher where she developed lifelong friendships with some of her students. Mrs. Erickson was a devout member of Gwinn United Methodist Church.

Jean was a lady of many talents. She was an excellent seamstress, crafter, baker, cake decorator and gardener. She also enjoyed spending time at camp with family and friends. She took pride in decorating the camp outhouse much to everyone’s amusement. Most recently, she entertained the staff at the Eastwood Nursing Center by joyfully singing her favorite songs.

Surviving are her daughter, Vicki (Kurt) Hedstrom of Gwinn; her sister, Maxine Erickson of Little Lake; five grandchildren: Holly (Chris) Holmes of Rockford, MI, Heidi Hedstrom of Lincolnwood, IL, Kurt (Cindi) Hedstrom, Jr. of Stoughton, WI, Rebekah (Steven) Armatti of Ishpeming and Hannah Erickson of Gwinn; nine great-grandchildren: Izzy, Chloe, Kelsey, Connor, Piper, Logan, Ethan, Charlie and Wren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 2005; and her son, Charles L. Erickson in 2016.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 4th at the Gwinn United Methodist Church with Rev. Ronald Fike officiating. Burial will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:30 am until the time of services at 12:00 noon at the church on Monday, and also at a luncheon in the church fellowship hall immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Jean’s memory to Gwinn United Methodist Church.

Jean’s memorial page may be viewed at koskeyfuneralhome.com, where memories and condolences may be shared.

Sincere sympathy to the Erickson family in Jean's passing. Will always remember our bowling team parties and the good times. Jean put up a galant effort fighting her illiness and is now at peace with Charlie. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
