Aino A. Uren, 88, of Negaunee, passed away early Sunday morning, January 27, 2019 at the Eastwood Nursing Center.

Aino was born May 31, 1930 in Negaunee to Frank and Saima (Liimatainen) Jarvi, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1948, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a loving and devoted homemaker to her family.

Mrs. Uren was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee and also spent several years with the Knitten Kittens. In her younger years, she was an avid pitcher in the local women’s softball leagues. She loved spending time with her beloved grandkids and watching their sporting events and especially enjoyed time at the family camp on Little Shag Lake. Aino was proud of her Finnish heritage and ‘Sisu’, making numerous trips to Finland to visit relatives. She was also a selfless volunteer and was always active in helping others.

Surviving are her 4 sons: Richard (Nona) Uren, Jr. of Negaunee Township, Curtis (Judy) Uren of Pontiac, MI, Michael (Kelly) Uren of Negaunee and Ivan (Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Cooper) Uren of Holland, MI; eight grandchildren: Todd Uren, Lisa (Jesse) Melka, Kimberly Uren, Zachary (Heidi) Uren, Tanner Uren, Trevor Uren, Lauren Uren and Cody Uren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Richard Uren, Sr. in 1998; an infant daughter, Joanne Marie; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 16th at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Solberg officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of services at noon at the church on Saturday, and also at a pot-luck style luncheon in the church fellowship hall immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Aino’s memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

So sorry to hear of Aino's passing. I remember her coming to our house as a child when it was my mom's (Marian Schaffer) turn to host the Knitten Kittens. At the time of my mom's passing in 1996, the group of 8-10 friends had been together for 50 years! I always remember your mom as a kind person, and hope she and my mom are knitting and catching up.

Mike and Family,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Your mom was the best! She was so kind and thoughtful and always had a good word to say about everyone. I will always be grateful for her taking me in for a few days when my dad passed away. My mom and your mom were very good friends and enjoyed cheering at all our sporting events together. Later, they enjoyed long walks together and even stayed together after your dad passed. Lots of good memories. She will be missed.
