Obituary for PHYLLIS JOYCE MARKETTO (Recla)

Phyllis Joyce Marketto, 88, of Croix St., Negaunee and longtime Iron Mountain resident passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, January 22, 2019 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Phyllis was born February 18, 1930 in Alpha to Peter and Lillian (Nylund) Recla and was valedictorian of Porter High School, Alpha, Class of 1947. She married Rudolph ‘Rudy’ Marketto in 1948 and they enjoyed 59 glorious years together before his death in 2008.

Phyllis worked as a desk clerk at the Crystal Falls Inn and also as a secretary for Doctors Addison and Palm in Crystal Falls. Phyllis and Rudy moved to southern California in 1960 and later to Monterey, CA in 1972 where she worked as a secretary and insurance agent for Farmers Insurance Group. The family moved back to Michigan in 1986, settling in Iron Mountain.

Mrs. Marketto was a member of American Martyrs Church, Kingsford, where she sang in the choir. Phyllis loved music, bow hunting, rides in the woods, cooking and baking, and spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are her son, Scott Marketto of Negaunee; a sister, Ilene Cwik of Crystal Falls; special sisters-in-law, Denise and June Recla; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Rudolph V. ‘Rudy’ Marketto in 2008; two brothers, Timothy and Ronald Recla; sister-in-law, Marjorie Marketto; brother-in-law, Daniel Cwik; and a nephew, Dan Cwik.

Honoring Phyllis’ wishes, graveside services will be held in the spring at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Crystal Falls, with the date and time to be announced by the Koskey Funeral Home, Negaunee.
