Anita Martha Marana, 86, of Kingsford, passed away Friday evening, December 28, 2018 at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living in Marquette with her loving family by her side and under the care of UP Home Health and Hospice.

Anita was born May 9, 1932 in Stambaugh to Edward and Inez (Lundin) Vezzetti and graduated from Stambaugh High School. Following graduation, she moved to Chicago to live with her aunt and earned a Psychology degree from Northwestern University.

Anita met her future husband, Bruno Marana, through mutual friends when she came home from Chicago for her grandmother’s funeral. They were married on January 5, 1957 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian.

While living in Ishpeming, Mrs. Marana was employed as a secretary at Northern Michigan University. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping, decorating, sewing and knitting. She like playing cards and was a former member of a Bridge Club in Ishpeming. Most of all, Anita loved her family, and especially enjoyed being married to a coach and watching her sons and grandchildren throughout their athletic careers.

Surviving are her two sons: Mark (Lisa) Marana of Negaunee and Dr. Peter Marana of Channing; five grandchildren: Mario, Mykka, Kennan, Michael and Aimee; two nieces: Faye and Cheri. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bruno on December 10, 2016; and her brother, Robert Vezzetti.

Anita’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff from Brookridge and UP Home Health and Hospice for their wonderful care provided.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 3rd at Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Thursday. A dessert reception will follow in the St. Paul Catholic Church Gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Anita’s memory to Brookridge Heights Assisted Living or UP Home Health and Hospice.
