Obituary for ROSE M. HERRALA (Hoid)

Rose Mae Herrala, 81, of Isabella Ave., Palmer, passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 at her home.

Rose was born June 1, 1937 in Negaunee to Walter and Esther (Sletten) Hoid, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1955 and was a lifelong area resident. Following school, she continued her education at the UP Beauty Academy, and went on to own and operate the Palmer Beauty Salon.

Mrs. Herrala was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee where she sang in the choir and was member of the Prayer Shawl Group. She was also a member of American Legion, Little Lake Auxilliary and the VA Romo, Post #3165, Negaunee VFW Auxilliary. Rose sat on both the Richmond Township Board of Review and the Richmond Township Election Board. In her spare time, she loved music both singing and playing the organ. Rose and her husband, Matt enjoyed camping and also took multiple vacations in Finland.

Surviving are her son, Wayne (Kathy) Herrala of Negaunee Township; a daughter, Kristine (Terry) Herrala-Sell of Marinette, WI; two grandchildren, Kimberly (Pat) Bordeau of Midland and Katie Herrala of Milwaukee; great-grandchildren: Jayce, Ethan and Sara Bordeau; daughter-in-law, Kay Herrala of Ishpeming; and her feline companion, Stella. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Matt Herrala in 1992; her son, Ken Herrala in 1998; a grandson, James Herrala in 2017; and her sister, Joyce Hoid.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday, December 19th at Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 pm at the church on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Rose’s memory to Bethany Lutheran Church or UPAWS.
