Obituary for GENEVIEVE ANN VALENTI

Genevieve Ann ‘Jenny’ Valenti, 77, of W. Johnson St., Ishpeming, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, November 24, 2018 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Jenny was born July 21, 1941 in Ishpeming to Antonio and Lisa Betha (Carello) Valenti, and graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1959. She was employed in her younger years at the H.W. Gossard Company, the Beau Chateau in Negaunee and also for Bunny Bread in Marquette. Jenny then worked at the US Post Office in Ishpeming, retiring as a clerk with over 30 years of service.

Ms. Valenti was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming and was a former member of the Old Fashioned Baptist Church Ishpeming. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards and other competitive games such as chess and dominos. Jenny also enjoyed her trips to the casino and rummage sales with her friend Francis Joki. She had a big heart and often traveled across country to visit relatives who were ill.

Surviving are her brother, Victor ‘Vito’ Valenti of Ishpeming; numerous special nieces and nephews; a special friend, Francis Joki; and many other dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Rose Johnson, Cecelia Thompson and Katherine Bradford Aho; and four brothers: Frank, Domenic, Nicholas and Salvatore Valenti.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 30th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Ryan Ford officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Friday, and also at a luncheon in the church hall following services.
