Obituary for LORRAINE LOIS HANCOCK (Parkkonen)

Lorraine Hancock, 90, of Ishpeming Township, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, October 17, 2018 at Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.

Lorraine was born January 15, 1928 in Negaunee to Armi and Mary (Kanniainen) Parkkonen and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1945. She was employed for many years as a nurse at Bell Memorial Hospital, several nursing homes, and private duty. Lorraine married Rupert Frederickson on April 2, 1948 who passed away in a mining accident on October 10, 1955. Mrs. Hancock was a member of North Iron Church in Ishpeming. In her spare time she was an avid reader and enjoyed walking, ice skating, and snowshoeing.

Surviving are her husband of 49 years, George Hancock; two sons, Gary (Deborah) Frederickson of Las Vegas and Daniel (Christine) Frederickson of Marquette; three granddaughters, Stephanie (Jeff) Ecklund, Jessica Frederickson, and Jamie (Troy) Muffler; her sister, Sharon (Fred) Rivers of Ishpeming; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Rupert; five brothers, Art, Bill, John, George, and Don Parkkonen; and three sisters, Mary Louise Nicikowski, Marjorie Dodge, and Ruth Ivy.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 23rd at North Iron Church with Rev. Mark Broberg officiating. Burial will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church from 12:00 noon until the time of services at 1:00 pm. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Lorraine’s memory to Assemblies of God World Missions.
