Obituary for HOWARD WALTER MANGINEN

Howard Walter Manginen, 84, of Cedar St., Negaunee, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning, July 15, 2018 in the care of his loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Howard was born January 29, 1934 in Champion to Walter and Vivian (Scott) Manginen and attended Champion Schools. He eventually earned his GED from Graveraet High School in 1961. Howard was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. Following his service to his country, he was employed as a security officer for Cleveland Cliffs, retiring in 1995 with over 30 years of service with the company.

Mr. Manginen was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee and was a life member of VA Romo Post #3165, Negaunee VFW. He and his wife enjoyed traveling, spending time camping, and most of all, being with their beloved family.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Jean (Jarvi) Manginen; two sons: Jay (Marsha) Manginen of Champion and Danny (Amy) Manginen of Canton, MI; a daughter, Darla (Scott) Soeltner of Negaunee; five grandchildren: Brooke and Brent Soeltner, and Peter, Craig and Andrew Manginen; and three great-grandchildren: Cameron, Kiara and Clare. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Richard and Kenny Manginen.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 18th at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Douglas Norquist officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am at the church on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Howard’s memory to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
