Obituary for EDWARD TOIVO UURO

Edward Toivo ‘Ed’ Uuro, 87, of Duncan Ave., Ishpeming, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 29, 2018 at UP Health System Marquette.

Ed was born January 16, 1931 in Ishpeming to Toivo and Amanda (Norberg) Uuro, attended Ishpeming Schools and was a lifelong area resident. Following his schooling he spent time with the Army National Guard while he worked as a police officer for the City of Ishpeming. He also worked for nearly 10 years at the Mather ‘B’ before owning and operating Ed’s Iron Inn in Negaunee. Following retirement, he and his friend Joe Mayrand enjoyed road trips together doing auto transport for local car dealerships.

Ed had a love for music and guitar, playing in local bands since he was a teenager, many of those years with Rusty’s Troubadours. In his spare time, he also enjoyed golfing, oil painting, camping with his wife in the Hiawatha National Forest, watching Ed’s Iron Inn local sports teams that he sponsored, and most of all loved fishing, especially fly fishing.

Surviving are his loving wife, Jo Ann (Trewnick) Uuro; 2 sons, Steven Uuro of Ishpeming and Matt (Jodi) Uuro of Green Bay; a daughter, Stephanie (Michael) Burton of Kokomo, IN; son-in-law, Allen (Toni) Trewnick of Crystal Falls; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, George (Betty) Uuro of Chassell; sisters, Lillian Swanson of Negaunee and Dorothy Meyer of Ishpeming; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Leslie Uuro.

Honoring Ed’s wishes, services will be held at a later date.
