Florence G. Wigg, 99, of 24th Ave., Fort Gratiot, MI and former longtime Negaunee resident, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 22, 2018 at The Sanctuary at Mercy Village, Fort Gratiot.
Florence was born August 3, 1918 in Marquette to Carl ‘Charles’ and Ida M. (Bjornell) Gustafson and graduated from J.D. Peirce High School, Class of 1936. She was the operations supervisor of the traffic department for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1972.
Mrs. Wigg was a member of Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church, Negaunee, as well as a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Past GFWC Negaunee Women’s Club, the Peninsula Arts Appreciation Council and PEO Sisterhood.
In her spare time she enjoyed crossword puzzles and word searches, playing the piano, cooking for her family and in her younger years she enjoyed modeling in style shows.
Surviving are her 2 sons, Alan (Angel) Saunders of St. Clair, MI and Don (Dianne) Saunders of Greenville, MI; 5 grandchildren: Carol (Ken) Pitts, Mark (Paula) Saunders, William (Adrienne) Saunders, Todd (Michelle) Saunders and Nicole (Nicholas) Kries; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Francis V. ‘Buster’ Saunders; second husband, Leonard Wigg; 2 brothers, Carl and Eric Gustafson; and 2 sisters, Alice Gustafson and Ethel Rosten.
Memorial services will be held at a later date, and will be announced by the Koskey Funeral Home.
