Preston Reece Niemi, 31, of Palmer, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at his home.

Preston was born October 16, 1986 in Ishpeming to Sid A. and Yvette M. (Wehmanen) Niemi and attended Negaunee High School. He was a loving father, son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle and friend, and his wonderful sense of humor and bright blue eyes will be dearly missed by many.

Preston loved being outdoors; he enjoyed snowshoeing, camping, mountain biking and target shooting. He was employed in construction and held numerous jobs throughout his life. Preston was handy when it came to fixing anything, you could often find him tinkering and working on odds and ends. He also enjoyed playing video games with his cousins. Most of all, Preston loved spending time with his children, family and friends.

Surviving are his father, Sid Niemi of Palmer; mother, Yvette (Patrick Potila) Niemi of Negaunee Township; maternal grandmother, Verona Wehmanen of Negaunee; wife, Tina (Nylander) of Negaunee; his son, Evan Niemi; his daughter, Alison Niemi and her mother Kathleen Corp; two sisters, Shayla (Jeffrey Rankinen) Niemi of Negaunee and their daughter, Lydia, and Hayley (Patrick Haydon) Rice of Negaunee and their son, August Haydon; brother, Devyn (McKinleigh Claffey) Rice of Marquette; his aunty, April (Lynn) Tadgerson; four uncles: Dean Wehmanen, Ronnie (Linda), Daryl and Wayne (Karen) Niemi; special cousins: Levi (Amber) Tadgerson and Leora (Zach) Lancaster; his best childhood buddy, Tony Tilly; special friends and mentors, Elmer and Nancy Sabin of Munising; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Niemi and Marilyn (Hill) (Stanley) Jarvi; and his maternal grandfather, David Wehmanen.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, February 12th at the Koskey Funeral Home with Rev. D. Michael Carriere officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00 noon until the time of services at 3:00 pm at the funeral home on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial considerations be directed to the family at PO Box 237, Palmer, MI 49871 to help offset final expenses.
