Obituary for EVELYN JUNE LARSON (Michelson)

EVELYN JUNE LARSON (Michelson)
Evelyn June Larson, 89, of Louisville, KY and longtime Negaunee Township resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, November 22, 2017 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville.
Evelyn was born March 14, 1928 in Amasa to John and Anna Mickelson. She grew up on her parents’ farm near Amasa and was a 1946 graduate of Crystal Falls High School, subsequently attending the practical nursing program at Northern Michigan College. She worked for a short time at Marquette General Hospital.
In 1950, Evelyn met Wesley J. Larson of Palmer, and the two were married in 1952. Three years later, they moved to a house in Negaunee Township and lived there together until Wesley’s death in 1999. During this time Evelyn was a homemaker, raising three energetic sons and beautiful flowers. For several decades she was an enthusiastic supporter of the Negaunee Male Chorus Auxiliary, and, after her husband’s death, a member of the Red Hat Society. Evelyn was a nature and animal lover, and especially enjoyed watching birds. In later years her grandchildren were the light of her life and she went by the name ‘grandma’ to all who knew her.
Surviving are her three sons: Lee (Ruth) of Louisville, KY, Daniel of Holland, MI and Lowell (Irena) of Byron, IL; and four grandchildren: John, Erica, Thomas and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Wesley J. Larson; and older sister, Annette Jarvi.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 30th at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday, and also at a luncheon in the church fellowship hall immediately following graveside services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Evelyn’s name to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
