Obituary for CAROL MARY YOUNG (Walitalo)

CAROL MARY  YOUNG (Walitalo)
Carol Mary Young, 74, of Marquette Township, passed away peacefully in the care of her loving family on Wednesday evening, September 6, 2017 at UP Health System – Marquette.
Carol was born November 26, 1942 in L’Anse to Theodore and Hulda (Kontio) Walitalo and graduated from L’Anse High School, Class of 1961. She married Roland ‘BoBo’ Young in 1961 and they shared 56 years of marriage together.
Carol was employed in the food service department at Northern Michigan University, retiring in 1998. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Lady Red Hats and the Monday Night Ladies Group. In her free time, Carol enjoyed crafts, baking, gardening and attending her grandchildren’s school events. Most of all, she loved cooking and time spent with family during the holidays, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her loving husband, Roland ‘BoBo’ Young; son, Brian (Tina) Young of Marquette; daughter, Cynthia (Robert) Reichel of Negaunee; grandchildren: Jeremy (McKaela Pietro), Ryan (Lindsey), Bobby (Halley) and Jamie Reichel; Whitney (Derek Griffin) and Nick (Brooke Bossert) Young; great-grandchildren: Ayla, Arya, Nora and Arlo Reichel; her sister, Annette Mervar; special nieces: Amy Stein, April and Carie McMahon, and Diane Gallagher; special friends, Julie Higbie and Penny Hassell; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Darrin Young in 2015; her brother, Theodore Walitalo; and her sister, Dorothy Ward.
Carol’s family extends a special thank you to the caregivers of UP Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care provided.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 13th at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Chad Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to UPAWS in Carol’s memory.
