Rena Evers
Negaunee
Rena Evers, 87, formerly of 98 Croix St., Negaunee, entered eternal life Friday evening, May 27, 2016 in the loving care of her family at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.
Rena was born July 30, 1928 in Byron Center, MI to Thiel and Mattie (Slot) Berkenpas and lived in the Grand Rapids area until 1996 when she moved to Negaunee.
Rena was employed as a housekeeper at Oak Crest Cottonwood Manor in Jenison following her career delivering newspapers for the Grand Rapids Press. Most importantly, she was a good homemaker.
In her free time, Rena enjoyed reading and watching Tigers baseball. In her younger years she enjoyed listening to boxing and the Indy 500, playing Rook and taking Sunday afternoon walks. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her children: Linda (Bob) Hamelink, Donna (Kevin) Deppe, Marcia (John) Karvonen, Eileen (Kirt) Deppe, John (Donna) Evers, Ed (Dawn) Evers, Mel (Deb) Evers and Brian (Harriet Houser) Evers; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way; her sister, Chris (Marv) Broersma; brothers-in-law, John (Jane) Evers and Wayne Rahn; sisters-in-law: Fran (Harold) DeVries, Ormand Vining, and Joan Evers; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Evers; daughter, Sharon Evers; sisters: Joyce (Tom) Evers, Louise (Bill) Evers, Jen (Garret) DeHaan, Agnes (Bud) Goorhouse and Frances (Frank) Visser.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 4th at Bible Baptist Church in Ishpeming with Pastor Ben Marx officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church for one hour prior to services and also at a luncheon immediately following. Interment will take place in the Zutphen Cemetery.
