Steven Samuel Etelamaki, 60, of Perala Ct., Negaunee, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at UP Health System Bell.
Steven was born December 18, 1955 in Ishpeming to Tauno J. and Mae E. (Raittila) Etelamaki, graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1974 and was a lifelong area resident. He married Sandra L. Johnson on July 31, 1981, enjoying nearly 35 years of marriage. He was employed as an Electrician for Cliffs Natural Recourses, retiring December 31, 2014 with 42 yrs. of service with the company.
Mr. Etelamaki was member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee, and was also a member of the Hiawatha Amateur Radio Association. Through the association he was able to volunteer at many local events such as the U.P. 200 Sled Dog Race, the Noquemanon Ski Marathon, the Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic and the Suicide Hill Ski Jumps. In his spare time he also enjoyed 4 -wheeling, being at camp, listening to bluegrass music, and loved computers, being able to both enjoy and repair them. Above all he enjoyed being with his family, especially taking trips to Chicago to see his daughter, Lisa.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra L. Etelamaki of Negaunee; daughter, Lisa M. Etelamaki of Chicago; brothers: John (Mina) Etelamaki of Humboldt and Michael (Sheila) Etelamaki of Naples, FL; sister, Donna (Allen) Mikkola of Naples, FL; sisters-in-law: Paulette (Dean) Patron of Negaunee, Barbara (David) Herman of Negaunee, Donna Johnson of Corunna, MI and Chris Johnson of Negaunee; and canine companions: Tutti and grand dog, P.W. He was preceded in death by his parents; and mother-in-law, Shirley J. Johnson.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00pm on Sunday, May 15th at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Marcia Solberg officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 2:00pm until the time of services at 4:00pm at the church on Sunday, and also at a dinner reception immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Steven’s memory to UPAWS, 84 Snowfield Rd., Negaunee or the Hiawatha Amateur Radio Association, PO Box 1183, Marquette.
