Ann Katherine Fossmo, 82, of 107 Kirkpatrick Ave., Palmer, passed away at home Tuesday morning, June 30, 2015 with her loving family by her side and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
Ann was born February 4, 1933 in Ishpeming to Clarence and Ida (Lehtonen) Kellan, grew up on Tobin Street and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1951. She then earned her Registered Nursing degree from St. Luke’s School of Nursing. Ann and her family lived in Racine, WI before moving to Palmer in 1968. She was employed as an RN and Director of Nursing at the Palmer Nursing Home, then worked for the State of Michigan as a nurse at the Marquette Branch Prison, retiring in 1991.
Mrs. Fossmo was a member Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Negaunee Eagle’s Club and the Marquette Branch Prison Employee’s Club. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking and cooking. Most of all, she loved having family and friends at her home, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are 4 daughters: Cheryl Kerkela and Susan Judkins, both of Palmer, Ellen (Ken) Wallingsford of St. Louis, MO, and Patricia (Michael) Joyal of Palmer; her son, William A. Fossmo of Palmer; 6 grandchildren: Christopher Richter, Alisha (Brantz) Heisler and Emma Wallingsford, William and Amanda Judkins, and Rachel Joyal; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William Fossmo on March 29, 2003; 2 grandsons: Alexander and Austin Joyal; and a brother, George Kellan.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, July 2nd at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Douglas Norquist officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at a luncheon in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Interment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.
