Robert John Carriere, 68, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 31, 2015 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.
Robert was born December 14, 1946 in Ishpeming to Rosemary Carriere and attended Champion Schools. He was employed for the State of Michigan on numerous road crews and also operated an adult assisted living home.
Robert enjoyed going to Bingo with his aunts, watching soap operas and participating in bible study at Snowberry Heights. Most importantly, he provided care for his mother and a special Aunt, Mary Tuominen. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews when they were younger, and was always reliable when it came to watching his sister Mary’s children. Robert also enjoyed his coffee clutch time spent with his uncles and cousins.
Surviving are his brother, James Parkkonen of Ishpeming; 3 sisters: Linda Paquette of Marquette, Rose (Mark) VanLinden of Marquette and Mary (Barry) Torreano of Negaunee; and many special nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosemary and Elden Parkkonen; a brother, John Parkkonen; an infant sister, Anna Marie; and 2 cousins who were like brothers to him: Lowell and Kenneth Tuominen.
Funeral services will be held at 5:30 pm on Friday, April 3rd at Koskey Funeral Home with Robert’s cousin, Rev. D. Michael Carriere, officiating. Burial will be in Northland Chapel Gardens. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:30 pm until the time of services at 5:30 pm on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks people to consider directing contributions to help cover Robert’s final expenses, 938 Cedar St., Negaunee, MI 49866.
