Dorothy Sylvia Vercoe, 87, of Water St., Negaunee, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, February 21, 2015 at UP Health System Bell where she had been a patient for one day.
Dorothy was born May 5, 1927 in Michigamme to Otto and Celia (Makela) Stolnack, attended Negaunee High School and was a lifelong area resident. In her younger years she was employed as a seamstress at the H.W. Gossard Co. Dorothy married William J. Vercoe on July 20, 1957.
Mrs. Vercoe was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, and always looked forward to having lunch with her sons and brother, Charlie, at Bonanza every Friday. She also enjoyed Tuesday night dinners with her nieces at the Country Grill and browsing and antiquing for knickknacks.
Surviving are her 3 sons: Charles (Jane) Vercoe of Kingsford, and John and James Vercoe of Negaunee; 2 grandchildren: Benjamin Vercoe and Emily Vercoe; brother, Charles Stolnack of Negaunee; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William on September 21, 1987; 3 brothers: Albert, John and James Stolnack; and 4 sisters: Ruth Nicholas, Alma Syrjala, Bertha Anderson and Ellen Nicholas.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 25th at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Marcia Solberg officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm at the church on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon in the fellowship hall following the service. Burial will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in Dorothy’s memory.
