Obituary for GEORGE ROBERT ELVETICI

GEORGE ROBERT ELVETICI
George R. Elvetici
Ishpeming
George Robert Elvetici, 70, of Ishpeming, entered eternal life in the early hours of January 26, 2015 at UP Health System Marquette surrounded by his loving family.
George was born January 11, 1945 in Ishpeming to Lawrence ‘Poncho’ and Irene (Mager) Elvetici and attended school in Iron River. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy.
George had many hobbies and talents throughout his life, many jobs he enjoyed, and many things he loved to do with his family and friends. In his spare time he repaired small engines for many years, loved fishing and hunting, enjoyed entertaining and playing music with his band, and he had a beautiful voice that attracted everyone who heard him sing. Most of all, George loved spending time with his grandchildren, making them laugh and telling them stories. He enjoyed telling the story of one of his most memorable jobs; working as an animal warden in Quantico in Virginia. He had a love and passion for animals, and this was more than a job to him. Many people knew and loved George, and his legacy will be carried on through his music, stories, fond memories and love.
George was preceded in death by parents and his brother Ronald ‘Spagett’ Elvetici, all of Negaunee. His remaining family includes his long-time companion of 28 years, Candace Plankey of Ishpeming, his oldest daughter Tammy (Rusty)Elvetici Baltzell of Virginia, Lisa (late Kenny) Haney of Virginia, his daughter Robbin (Kevin) Elvetici Mays of Ishpeming, and his son Cameron (Julie) Plankey of Gwinn. He is also survived by his brothers: Richard (Nancy) Elvetici of Virginia, Lawrence (Maryanne) Elvetici of Wisconsin, and John (Patti) Elvetici of Munising; his grandchildren: Tori, Kayden, Bentley, Faith, Mya and Isabella of Michigan, Nathan, Travis, Rachel and Megan of Virginia along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His heart of gold will forever be missed by all of his family and friends. “God saw you getting tired, a cure was not to be, he put his arms around you and whispered come to me. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.”
Honoring George’s wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.
