Obituary for MAE E. ETELAMAKI (Raittila)

Mae E. Etelamaki
Negaunee
Mae E. Etelamaki, 93, of Oak St., Negaunee, died at 11:00 am on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the Eastwood Nursing Center surrounded by her loving family.
Mae was born June 28, 1921 in Tilden Township to Samuel and Sanna-Liisa (Ranta) Raittila and graduated from National Mine High School, Class of 1938. She married Tauno J. ‘Doc’ Etelamaki on July 8, 1939 and together they raised four children. Mae was employed for a number of years as a nurse’s aide at the Acocks Medical Facility.
Mrs. Etelamaki was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee where she was active in the Abigail Circle. In her free time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, gardening, and as an avid artist she often enjoyed drawing.
Surviving are her husband of 75 years, Tauno; 3 sons: John (Mina) Etelamaki of Humboldt, Michael (Sheila) Etelamaki of Bonita Springs, FL and Steven (Sandra) Etelamaki of Negaunee Township; 1 daughter, Donna (Allen) Mikkola of Naples, FL; 11 grandchildren: Theresa Mikkola, Dana Mowry, Mark (Debbie) Mikkola, Doug (Tanya) Etelamaki, David (Christi) Etelamaki, Daniel (Sarah) Etelamaki, Sarah (Kevin) Kennerly, Sabina (Kevin) Carlson, Erika Etelamaki, Elise (Mark Elegeert) Etelamaki and Lisa Etelamaki; 15 great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Aune Macario; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Uno Raittila; 3 sisters: Ellen Ranta, Aili Anderson and Martha Laitinen; and a great-grandson, Brody Etelamaki.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, September 29th at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Marcia Solberg officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 Noon at the church on Monday, and also at a luncheon in the fellowship hall following the service. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. Mae’s grandsons: Doug, Dave and Dan Etelamaki and Mark Mikkola will serve as pallbearers.
