Barbara M. Ostwald, 87, of 118 Ridge St., Negaunee, died at 7:26 PM on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Mather Nursing Center.

Barbara was born February 3, 1924 in Ishpeming to Toivo A. and Mavis E. (Cramer) Saline, graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1943, and was a lifelong area resident. She worked for Teddy’s Central Florist for 10 years, at the Breitung Hotel in Negaunee and also at Ishpeming’s Gossard Company.

Barbara was a member of the Ishpeming United Presbyterian Church, the Negaunee Historical Society, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed keeping scrapbooks and photo albums, walking, reading, traveling, doing yardwork and listening to music, and most of all, spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are her son, Brian (Tracey Hammar) Ostwald of Negaunee, 2 daughters: Cathleen (Stephen) Nelson of Ishpeming and Cynthia Stafford of Sarasota, FL, 4 grandchildren: Angela and Dustin Stafford, Jennifer (John) Peterson and Daniel Nelson, numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell D. Ostwald on March 26, 2001, whom she married on Feb. 25, 1946, her son Bradley in 1978, a grandson, Christopher Dickerson, and a sister, Phyllis Lummukka.

Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22nd at the Ishpeming United Presbyterian Church with Mary Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 3:30 p.m. until the time of services at 5 p.m. at the church on Thursday and also at a reception following the service in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Negaunee Historical Museum or Negaunee Senior Center in Barbara’s name.
