ELIZABETH I.  KEVERN (Savolainen)
Elizabeth I. ‘Liz’ Kevern, 90, of 222 S. 5th St., Snowberry Heights, Marquette, and former Negaunee resident, entered eternal life early Wednesday morning, July 18, 2018 at the Eastwood Nursing Center.

Liz was born July 20, 1927 in Negaunee to Tobias and Hilda (Albrecht) Savolainen and graduated from Negaunee High School. Following her schooling, she moved to Chicago where she was employed during the war in order to help support her family. After the war, she met Gordon ‘Corky’ Kevern and they were united in marriage on January 24, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee.

Liz was employed as a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s Hospital in Marquette and also worked as a home care specialist in Negaunee and while she and Corky lived in Arizona for 14 years. They returned to the Marquette area to reside in 1998.

Mrs. Kevern was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee. She was very proud of her Finnish heritage and loved cooking and baking. Most importantly, she loved her family and cherished her time spent with her beloved grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters: Kathleen (Ernest) Grasso of Negaunee and Diane (Dennis) Cassidy of Harvey; five grandchildren: Dean (Karena) Grasso, Dana (Jason) Rivord, Bradley (Gina) Tresedder, Donald (Jackie) Tresedder and Sean (Meghan) Cassidy; six great-grandchildren: Mandi and Joseph Grasso, Kole and Alex Rivord, and Tarryn and Sydney Cassidy; her brother, Tarmo Savolainen of Negaunee; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 64 years, Gordon E. Kevern, on Sept. 11, 2011; two brothers, Toivo and Taito Savolainen; her sister, Aili Crowley; and an infant sister, Anna Savolainen.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, July 24th at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Douglas Norquist officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:30 am until the time of services at 12:00 noon at the church on Tuesday, and also at a luncheon in the church fellowship hall immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Liz’s memory to a charity of your choice.
