Following retirement, Bill spent 12 years at NMU revising and running the apprenticeship program and testing for maintenance and welding. With the help of the high school welding class, he designed and built the submarine memorial that’s displayed in the lower harbor in Marquette.

Bill played fastpitch softball for several years and also enjoyed pitching horseshoes, bowling and cribbage. In his later years he played golf with his crew on men’s day. He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Detroit Tigers fan. Bill also enjoyed following his grandchildren, Jake and Allie, throughout their sports careers.

Surviving are two sons: Michael (Sheri) Ennett of Negaunee and Bradley Ennett of Green Bay; his daughter, Cathy Ennett of Florida; grandchildren: Katie (Ken) Nabbe, Bryan Jarvinen, and Jake and Allie Ennett; a great-granddaughter, Iris Nabbe; and his brother, John (Marlene) Ennett of Negaunee. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Nancy (Saari) Ennett on April 7, 2014; his daughter, Linda Jarvinen; his son, Mark Ennett; and an infant son, Bryan Ennett.
