Obituary for SANNIE E. LUOKKALA (Maki)

SANNIE E. LUOKKALA (Maki)
Sannie E. Luokkala, 98, longtime Negaunee resident, entered eternal life early Thursday morning, January 4, 2018 at the Eastwood Nursing Center.
Sannie was born February 18, 1919 in Whitefish, Onota Township to John and Aini (Pihlainen) Maki and grew up on the family farm. She attended school in Deerton and at Graveraet High School, and was a proud graduate of NICE Community Schools in the 1970’s. She was a loving and devoted homemaker.
Mrs. Luokkala was a devout member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee and belonged to the Abigail Circle. She was selfless with helping others, operating adult foster care out of her home and often babysitting for those in need. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Surviving are her two sons: E. Robert (Clara) Luokkala of Deerton and Alvin (Peggy St. Vincent) Luokkala of Escanaba; four grandchildren: Darlene (Earl) Paul, Sharlene (Kevin) Naylor, Christa (John) Hridljan and Lisa Luokkala; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Eino Luokkala in 1995; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 12th at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Terry Cathcart officiating. Interment will take place in the Deerton Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday, and also at a luncheon in the church hall following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Sannie’s memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
