Obituary for JEANETTE LILLIAN CHEVRETTE (Mattson)

With great sadness Jeanette Lillian Chevrette, 88, of Ishpeming Township, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday morning, September 13, 2017 at The Lighthouse at Ishpeming Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Jeanette was born one of three daughters on December 7, 1928 in Ishpeming to Leonard and Sigrid (Mattson) Maki and graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1946. She then earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Northern Michigan University, and was employed as a teacher with Ishpeming Public Schools for 37 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Michigan Education Association (MEA) and Bethel Lutheran Church, Ishpeming.
Jeanette married Thomas Chevrette on June 22, 1957 and together they enjoyed many happy years in Negaunee, Ishpeming and Boynton Beach, Florida.
Surviving are her loving husband, Thomas of Negaunee; her sister, Carolyn Alice (Karl) Rundman of Atlantic Mine; her brother-in-law, Rodney (Evelyn) Chevrette of Benton Harbor; her sister-in-law, JoAnn Chevrette of Plymouth, CA; special niece and their caregiver, Lynn Chevrette; and many other nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents in 1979 and 1986, respectively; her sister, Katherine Elizabeth (Maki) Larson (2007) and her husband Hector (1979); Thomas’ brothers and their wives: Edward Jr. (1948), Donald (1996) and Lauris (1979), Lyle ‘Nenny’ (1972) and Jacqueline (2015), Clyde ‘Toby’ (1992), a niece Leann (1986) a nephew James Jr. (1995); and the family pets, Pepino and Benji.
Still having a phenomenal memory to the very end, Jeanette’s 88 years were blessed with a ton of memories enriched by such details as dates, events, names, places, and faces and her life has already been memorialized by a record company in her name – Salt Lady Records (which Thomas and their nephew, Bruce and his cousin, Jonathan created).
Honoring Jeanette’s wishes, a private service will be held. Interment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made to your favorite charity in Jeanette’s memory.
The family extends a special thank you to PA Jeremy Steele and the staff members of UP Home Health and Hospice, the Teal Lake Senior Living Community and The Lighthouse of Ishpeming for the kind and compassionate care given to Jeanette for the past six months.
