Richard J. Sleeman, 56, of Pomona, CA and formally of National Mine, passed away March 6, 2014 at the City of Hope Parsons Village in Durate, CA where he met his challenges with cancer so bravely.
Richard Was Born July 19, 1957 in Marquette to James and Olivia (Meni) Sleeman. In his early career he was employed by CCI at the Mather ‘B’ Mine then transferred to the Tilden Mine. He futhered his education at N.M.U. Technical College in Electronics, then went on to work for Source Corp. in Green Bay, WI. For most of his life, Richard worked in service of electronics and as an entrepreneur.
Richard was a great family man. He loved his children and grandchildren. Throughout his life, he showed his wittiness and his love for hospitality by cooking and spending time with family and friends. Richard had a lifelong friendship; he was close as a brother and best friends with his cousin Danny Sleeman.
Surviving are his loving wife of 37 years, Gina (Gosiewski) Sleeman ; mother, Olivia (Meni) Sleeman of Negaunee; grandmother, Phyllis (Roncaglione) Lafkas; sons: Chad and Gabriela Sleeman, Todd and Cynthia Sleeman, daughter Olivia and Dustin Nelson; grandchildren: Antonio and Olivia Sleeman, Haille and Lillian Sleeman, and Zoey Nelson; sister, Lori and James Howe; nephew and godson, Ryan Howe;
brothers-in-law, Don and Van Thu Gosiewski and Carl Gosiewski, sisters- in- law: Laura Kinder, Theresa Woodie and Mary Sims; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Sleeman, and his grandparents.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Richard’s life will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, March 19th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ishpeming with Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 3:30 pm until the time of services at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, March 19th at the church, and also at a reception in the church hall following the Mass.
