Condolence: Dr. Anderton was an inspirational professor who will be deeply missed at NMU and throughout the Marquette community. I am a graduate in Physical Geography with an Earth Science minor, having had quite a few classes with Dr. A. He was a personable, light-hearted, and deeply passionate teacher who always managed to find the time and care amid his busy schedule to talk with his students. A great guide and inspiration! My deepest sympathies to his children, family and close friends! Know that his Spirit lives on through all the lives he has touched. Thank you Dr. A! Love and Peace

Condolence: So saddened to hear about John. Growing up with John and spending countless summer days fishing the Carp by 3rd falls and the Forge, John would enlighten us with his knowledge of the history of the area that we adventured into. A truly remarkable man that will be missed by the so many people that knew him. Until we meet again my friend.

Condolence: He was a wonderful instructor and it is very sad to lose a gifted person so young. He will be sorely missed by everyone. In Time of Sorrow… May you see God’s light on the path ahead When the road you walk is dark. May you always hear, Even in your hour of sorrow, The gentle singing of the lark. When times are hard may hardness Never turn your heart to stone, May you always remember when the shadows fall— You do not walk alone.

Condolence: Professor Anderton was a great asset to NMU and the Marquette community. I had the wonderful experience of having class with Professor Anderton which was always full of wit, humor, laughs and interesting discussion while at the same time highly educational. I respected him as a professor and contributor to the geography discipline. He lived life to the fullest and ALWAYS made class interesting. I was always excited to attend class. He shared many a fantastic story and always brought whatever topic was being discussed in class to life. He will truly be missed. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to take classes from Professor Anderton. I just want to remind the family to celebrate and remember the happy memories. Professor Anderton is no doubt off on another adventure in heaven and smiling down on us. God Bless.

Condolence: We are so saddened by John's passing. He was such a kind and generous human being who gave of himself without expecting anything in return. He lived his life as we all should--giving,not taking--loving, not hating--forgiving, not blaming--smiling, not frowning. He brought out the best in those who were privileged to know him...and those who chose to be close to him. God Bless you, John Anderton...paddle home, my Brother.

Condolence: I was one of the very fortunate people to have gotten the opportunity to travel and get to know Professor Anderton. It was through his sense of adventure and his love and admiration for his family that I grew to respect him and was in awe of his spirit. He was not only a great professor, fellow traveller and mentor, but an excellent person as a whole. He was one of the kindest people I have ever met and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time. I will cherish the pictures I have from our travels to Ireland.
