Matthew Perry Hess, 62, of Peck St., Negaunee, died Friday evening, January 17, 2014 at his home.
Matthew was born March 6, 1951 in Petoskey to John F. and Eloise V. (Perry) Hess, was raised in the Copper Country and graduated from Hancock High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served two tours in the Vietnam War. Following his service to his country, Mr. Hess moved to the Negaunee area and was employed as a food administrator at the Marquette Branch Prison.
Matthew was a life member of V.A. Romo Post #3165, Negaunee V.F.W. In his younger years he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. Most recently, he often enjoyed barbeques and cookouts.
Surviving are his wife, Sherrie (Grady) Hess; his son, James (Amanda) Hess of Gladstone; step-children: Nicole Jarvi and Ann Alanen, both of Ishpeming; granddaughter, Nadia Hess; brothers: John (Phyllis) Hess of Charlevoix and Chris (Janet) Hess of Sault Ste. Marie; sister, Melissa (Marty) Boreman of Zeeland; nieces and nephews: John, Erik, Elizabeth, Christian, Kevin, Megan, Tyler, Brody, Holland and Anna. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Honoring Matthew’s wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will take place in the Copper Country.
